Perhaps it s been too long since I read the first in the series It took me a while to remember what was happening who all the characters were The book is certainly action packed but events seemed to become less believable as the book progressed I know it s sci fi but when Jesse and Cassius were suddenly floating in a huge memory cube that seemed to appear out of nowhere that s when I nearly put the book down without finishing I probably won t finish the series I still don t like the change in perspective and time Jesse s part is first person present tense and Cassius s is third person past tense I m ok with changing POV but changing tense is annoying to me The Case Of The Missing Necklace read the first in the series It took me a while to The Twelve Links remember what was happening who all the characters were The book is certainly action packed but events seemed to become less believable as the book progressed I know it s sci fi but when Jesse and Cassius were suddenly floating in a huge memory cube that seemed to appear out of nowhere that s when I nearly put the book down without finishing I probably won t finish the series I still don t like the change in perspective and time Jesse s part is first person present tense and Cassius s is third person past tense I m ok with changing POV but changing tense is annoying to me

Rating 35The action was there from page one The intrigue was heightened with the new details introduced in this second book This book was as enjoyable as the first book Then why the point drop For me I felt the characters lost their charm in a wayCrimson Rising starts off with Cassius running from the Slum Lords in a Canadian city Remember the world is devastated and isn t the same as the one we live in Part of the book is told from Cassuis perspective even though it s told in third person Cassius change of personality was a hard transition Sure so he s been lied to and betrayed by his Mommy figure You would expect anger and determination He has a little of that but for the most part he acts like a whipping boy and just turns over and becomes meek and all he wants to do is run away Whereas the first book he has almost no ualms about killing people and is determined to bring Jesse in by any means in this book he s suddenly feeble and wants to save everyone and be the nice guy Even suggesting to keep a violent murderous person on their ship for information as a lame excuse Of course when the bad guy escapes and becomes all bad guy bad ass to the heroes they act like it was so unexpected Really You re surprised Cassius You thought you can handle the person Really I with Jesse you should have left that villain on the ground with a few dozen bullet holes in his skull bullet holes my thoughts not Jesse s But I guess you have to have tension somehow Even though this bad guy have to look for the brothers as they are integral to the plot s over arcing plot in bad guy s means to win I didn t like it It didn t feel right with me That decision of keeping the bad guy even when the most logical thing to do was toss his butt of the planeship and Cassius sudden need to be a humanitarian didn t seem right when compared to the first book I also noticed a drop in setting descriptions There were still there in the book And some scenes it was vivid and yet subtle but the consistency didn t feel the same as the first book It was sporadic I felt in the first book the bleak setting helped emphasized the drastic changed world giving detail and support to the plot and mood of the story In this second book the details of setting was there but only to give an immediate feel of the moment at hand Not to paint the world Which makes me uestion Was this series written in one go and edited separately for separated publishing dates Or written separately completely They still retained the same plot characters but some of the supporting details like world building and characterization changed some being not as effective or wasn t as consistent To clarify the details were there I m not saying they are missing completely it just felt different from the first book not as neatly wrapped togetherOf course a lot is happening in this second book compared to the first More information is given making the plot understandable and likable There s a vastly better understanding as to what and why the green pearls exists and there s the introduction to the new red pearls Plot wise Crimson Rising is intense and edge of your seat interesting than the first book The bad guy is evil and deadly and just bad Which was good because it made me want to root for the good guysOverall I stilled enjoyed this book a lot I greatly enjoy the storyline and will continue on to the next book Verdict Read Pick up the first book though or you ll miss some important things Visit my book review blog where this post is also located at
